Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best players anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
