Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he liked gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and moved to New York to play some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were tough as he played extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on the game.
The real improvement in his game began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would often challenge each other. He was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his cunning thinking abilities. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. He headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
