Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in big stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
